Wool Carpets

There are many different carpets options to choose from and their suitability depends on where the carpet is going to be laid and how the room is used. You will need to consider the amount of use the room gets, how often the carpet gets walked on. Some areas of the home naturally have more foot traffic than others and so will require harder wearing carpet than those areas are less busy.

There is also practicality to consider, you may be looking for a flooring that can be wiped over or cleaned easily, for example carpet flooring for use in a kitchen or a bathroom would need to have different qualities than carpet that is laid in a lounge or bedroom.

One type of carpet that is popular because it is very stain resistant and lower priced is polypropylene carpet. A polypropylene carpet consists of twisted tufts of fibre which are often heat-treated to maintain their structure. There are many manufacturers who produce their own brands of polypropylene such as Con X Yarn, Zylon, B-Tron and a host of labels such as StainFree, StainAway and StainSafe .

Polyproylene is also used as a blend, the most common being 80% wool to 20% synthetic fibre. This wool mix has a uniform look rather than the random pattern that is in the fully natural product. A wool mix carpet retains it’s original look longer than the 100%  synthetic carpets like those made from polypropylene which tends to flatten fairly easily. Wool mixes are also warmer under foot.

The feel of a carpet is also important, the feel it gives to a room as well as when you walk on it. There may be rooms where you would prefer a longer pile on the carpet and it is worth bearing in mind that these type of carpets will show patterns of heavy use more easily.

There are so many options of carpets to choose from the choice can seem quite bewildering.  This is where using an experienced local company with a proven track record will make all the difference to your carpet buying experience.
